LIBER and Other Major Stakeholders Launch Joint Strategy to Strengthen the European Repository Network

LIBERSPARC EuropeCOAR, and OpenAIRE are launching a joint strategy aimed at strengthening the European repository network. The strategy lays out their commitment to work together – along with other relevant organisations – to develop and execute an action plan to reinforce and enhance repositories in Europe. As a first step, the group will undertake a survey that will enable a better understanding of the current repository landscape and identify priority areas of action. The survey will be available in February 2023.

A redesigned website for WorldWideScience Alliance

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) and International Council for Scientific and Technical Information (ICSTI)  are pleased to announce that the WorldWideScience.org website was redesigned recently to reflect the close partnership between ICSTI and the WorldWideScience Alliance. In 2022, the WorldWideScience Alliance established a formal partnership with ICSTI. WorldWideScience.org will serve as the global search portal for ICSTI members, facilitating scientific and technical information dissemination across borders and supporting the next generation of science research communication.

IAP announces the publication of its 2021 Annual Report

The new IAP Annual Report provides an overview of activities of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) in 2021, with specific sections on activities by affiliated regional networks AASSAEASACIANAS, and NASAC. The Report also gives evidence of IAP’s focus on providing science advice and promoting cooperation and capacity building among its membership – the world’s merit-based academies of science, medicine and engineering.

La Referencia firma acuerdo de cooperación con Redalyc

El Sistema de Información Científica Redalyc (México), la Red Federada de Repositorios Institucionales de Publicaciones Científicas LA Referencia y la Cooperación Latinoamericana de Redes Avanzadas, RedCLARA, (Uruguay) firmaron un acuerdo para constituir un marco general de colaboración para el establecimiento de los principios de implementación de apertura, consenso, inclusión y armonización, enfoque comunitario, sin fines de lucro, para la consolidación de un Ecosistema Regional de Ciencia Abierta para la interoperabilidad la vía verde y la vía dorada del Acceso Abierto que mejore la visibilidad y contribuya a nuevas formas de evaluación científica.

Action Plan for Diamond Open Access

Science Europe, cOAlition S, OPERAS, and the French National Research Agency (ANR) present their Action Plan to further develop and expand a sustainable, community-driven Diamond OA scholarly communication ecosystem.

It proposes to align and develop common resources for the entire Diamond OA ecosystem, including journals and platforms, while respecting the cultural, multilingual, and disciplinary diversity that constitutes the strength of the sector.

UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science

The UNESCO Secretariat will support Member States in implementing the Recommendation on Open Science. This strategy was shown during an information meeting, on 28 April 2022. The recording of the meeting and the slides presented are available here. As part of this Implementation Strategy, UNESCO is convening five ad-hoc Working Groups focusing on key impact areas related to open science, bringing together experts and open science entities, organisations and institutions, according to their field of activity and expertise.

Europe PMC improves discoverability of preprints

Recognising the role that preprints play as a way for life science researchers to openly and rapidly share their findings, Europe PMC has made over 420,000 preprint abstracts discoverable alongside journal publications. Europe PMC is expanding the number of searchable full text preprints to include those supported by Europe PMC funders. Overall this new project aims to increase the discoverability of science reported in preprints, expand the collection of full text preprints for future analyses, as well as improve visibility of preprints supported by Europe PMC funders.

Cette synthèse préparée par le Comité des services des bibliothèques scientifiques et des systèmes d’information (AWBI) de la Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, Fondation allemande pour la recherche) porte sur le traçage des données dans les ressources électroniques de la recherche. Elle décrit comment les éditeurs scientifiques deviennent des spécialistes de l’analyse de données, montre les conséquences pour la recherche et ses institutions, et identifie les types d’exploitation des données. Cette synthèse a pour but de présenter les pratiques en cours, de favoriser la discussion dans la perspective d’adopter une position claire sur ces pratiques et leurs conséquences pour la communauté académique.

In March 2022, ICSTI launched a new event series, ICSTI Connections, which offers ICSTI’s members an informal discussion forum for sharing experience and expertise on key topics in Science, Technolgy and Innovation.

The March Connections topic was portfolio analytics. Mary Beth West, an information technology specialist at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI), explained the wide array of data sources that OSTI uses to inform their researcher profile tool and wider portfolio analytics efforts, including the OSTI.GOV database and other governmental databases such as Web of ScienceOpenAlexMicrosoft Academic Graph (MAG), and ORCiD.
