The Wikicite Discussion Series was organised by the IFLA Wikidata Working Group and supported by the Wikimedia Foundation. These discussions, led by the IFLA Wikidata Working Group, address several themes such as open citations, language revitalisation, knowledge equity, access to scholarly publications, linking and visualising bibliographic data, the global wiki community, and much more!
IFLA compiled some key resources for libraries in responding to the Coronavirus pandemic. The information and resources are provided on a non-exhaustive basis but will be updated regularly. Researchers, librarians and publishers all play a role in promoting research, but those roles aren’t clearly defined. In a survey conducted in 2020 by AIP Publishing, librarians were asked about their contribution to promoting research, and what they feel their role should be. The results of the survey are presented in this whitepaper.
OCLC and LIBER announced the launch of a discussion series on Open Science through webinars and discussion groups from 24 September-5 November. The series, based on the LIBER Open Science Roadmap, will help guide research libraries in envisioning the support infrastructure for Open Science (OS) and their role at local, national, and global levels. This initiative aligns efforts between research libraries in Europe and North America.
OCLC has agreements in place with more than 400 publishers, aggregators and other content providers to supply metadata to facilitate discovery and access to key resources (electronic and print books, journals, databases, and other learning materials) through WorldCat Discovery. OCLC has signed new agreements with publishers.
The adaptation work for the new RDA Toolkit has started in German-speaking countries. Two projects commissioned by the standardization committee and led by the DNB (Deutsche National Bibliothek) started their work in March 2020. Together with the experts from the indexing department, the colleagues deal with the implementation of the new requirement in practical cataloging work. For this purpose, a manual for the development with RDA according to the 3R project is to be created (3R project for DACH libraries, i.e. the German-speaking area). On December 15, 2020, the 3R project will end and the Beta Toolkit will receive the official status of the RDA Toolkit.
This is vital that the interests and priorities of ISNI’s library users are clearly understood and represented. With this in mind, an ISNI Consultation Group for Libraries has been assembled, with the group being chaired by Vincent Boulet from the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF). A questionnaire is currently being developed for circulation to ISNI users in libraries during the fourth quarter of 2020. It is hoped that this will not only start to tease out priorities and pain points experienced by national libraries, but also help publicize the activities of the consultation group beyond its original core of steering group members.
