COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) begins the Lightning Talk series with an introduction to current issues in artificial intelligence (AI), and some new directions and successes with AI tools in scholarly publishing.

Marie Soulière, Frontiers open access publisher and COPE Council member, and Nishchay Shah, Cactus Communications, will share their expertise.

On Monday, February 12 (1:00–5:00 pm ET), the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) will host a pre-conference, “Introduction to AI and Machine Learning in Scholarly Communications.” The in-person event will take place at the Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor in Baltimore, just one day prior to the fifth anniversary NISO Plus Baltimore conference.

The NISO Plus 2024 conference will take place in Baltimore, Maryland (February 13–14). Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the conference will continue to bring librarians, publishers, tech and service providers, government agencies, and more to address some of the biggest trends and issues in the information community. Sessions will be organized into three tracks—metadata, open scholarship, and artificial intelligence.

The preliminary agenda is now available, the early bird deadline is January 8.

NASIG 39th Annual Conference will take place in Spokane, Washington, USA, from June 3 – 7, 2024.

They are calling for workshop ideas and facilitators, as well as for in-person presentations (concurrent sessions).

The submission deadline for in-person presentations (concurrent sessions) is December 1, 2023.

NASIG (formerly the North American Serials Interest Group, Inc.) will be hosting a webinar, whose theme will be Publishers presesrving publishing. The goal is to showcase steps that scholarly journal publishers take to preserve publications and objects and records related to publishing.
