The new amendments to the Copyright Act allow the NLA to collect everything, from e-books to blogs, websites to social media. Under the new provisions, Australia will protect the digital record in the same way as it always has for print. From now on, publishers and authors can upload electronic books, journals, magazines and newsletters through the NLA’s website.
The University of Liège bases its Open Repository and Bibliography Institutional directory on the « mandat à la liègeoise« . This mandate makes compulsory the deposit of publications that matches a powerful incentive, since only publications deposited on ORBI are taken into account in the evaluation within this university. The aim of this study was to establish the role of academic libraries in the context of open access (OA) journal publishing, based on the perceived needs of the journals and/or their editors. As a study sample, 14 OA journals affiliated to the University of Zürich, Switzerland, were taken.
This event was organised by Couperin, the French consortium of academic libraries for e-publications, during October 12th-14th. This year’s focuses were: growth of OA in France and Europe, new legal French developments and the next steps in open science.

The German National Library has successfully launched its licensing service for out-of-commerce works (VW-LiS) as a contribution to the digitisation of literature of the 20th century. VG Wort, a copyright management association, granted use licenses for the first 352 titles in September. The German National Library can now make these works available via the Internet in digitised form.
The Open Library of Humanities (OLH) is an academic-led, gold open-access publisher with no author-facing charges. With funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium, rather than any kind of author fee. OLH has partnered with the LingOA initiative and with Ubiquity Press to support the transition of subscription linguistics journals to a pure OA model. The LingOA project is designed to move linguistics journals out of unaffordable subscription models and into a pure, gold OA environment. Ubiquity Press is the technological platform provider that underpins the OLH.
